You've put in the training, logged the miles, and mentally prepared for race day. But have you ever wondered where you'd actually finish in the field? With our Ranking Calculator, you can find out — and the answer might surprise you.

How Does the Calculator Work?

Our Ranking Calculator is powered by historical finishing data from the Hamburg Marathon. It analyzes thousands of past results to estimate where a runner with your profile would land in the standings.

Simply enter four inputs:

  1. Gender — male or female
  2. Age — your age on race day
  3. Distance — Marathon (42.2 km) or Half-Marathon (21.1 km)
  4. Target time — your planned finish time

The calculator then delivers three rankings:

  • Overall Ranking: Where you'd place among all finishers, regardless of age or gender.
  • Age Group Ranking (AK): Your estimated position within your specific age category.
  • Gender Ranking: Your place among all male or all female participants.

How to Use Your Results

Knowing your estimated ranking is more than a curiosity — it's a powerful training tool.

Set realistic goals. If the calculator shows you're on track for a top-100 age group finish, you know your training is paying off. If you're further back than expected, it's a signal to reassess your target time or adjust your preparation.

Find your motivation. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from realizing how close you are to the next milestone. Maybe you're just 3 minutes away from cracking the top 10 in your age group. Maybe shaving off 5 minutes per kilometer would move you into the first third of the field. Those small gaps are tangible and trainable.

Race smarter. Understanding where you stand relative to the field helps you position yourself at the start and set your pacing strategy. Starting too far forward among faster runners leads to going out too fast; starting too far back means wasted energy weaving through the crowd.

A Note on Estimates

These rankings are based on historical data and should be treated as estimates. The actual field composition, weather conditions, and course changes can all influence your final placing. Use this tool as a guide, not a guarantee — and let it fuel your preparation, not define it.

Good luck with your training — and see you at the starting line! 🏁
